B'desh national among fake seers held: Police

Dehradun police on Friday arrested 25 people allegedly impersonating as ascetics, including a Bangladeshi citizen, a day after chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced 'Operation Kalanemi' to “identify fake saints defrauding the public.” According to the police, the arrests were made under section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) which empowers a police officer to arrest without a warrant to prevent the commission of cognisable offenses.
Meanwhile, the police registered a first information report (FIR) against the Bangladeshi citizen for illegally staying in the country. He was found roaming in Sahaspur in the guise of an ascetic, police said.
Rukn Rakam (26) alias Shah Alam, resident of village Sakhipur in Tangail district, was booked under the Foreigners Act at Sahaspur police station. He is being questioned by the local intelligence unit (LIU) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) teams, the police said.
