The Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council, on September 3, 2025, announced a series of Next Generation GST reforms through significant tax reduction in various sectors. Effective from September 22, ahead of the festive season, these reforms will reduce the tax burden on the common man and boost the nation's economy. Sunit Roy writes
n his Independence Day address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced, “The government will bring Next-Generation GST reforms, which will bring down tax burden on the common man. It will be a Diwali gift for you.”
The reforms, he said, would directly benefit the common man, farmers, MSMEs, women, youth, and middleclass families, while strengthening India’s long-term growth.
In line with the PM’s vision, the GST Council, on September 3, announced a series of Next-Gen GST reforms, providing big relief to the common man through significant tax reduction in various sectors.
