HT's report on Michael Jackson's concert, which mesmerised India's financial capital

- HT Correspondent

There was magic in the air. And with magic, 'History' was created at the Shahajee Raje Kreeda Kendra in Andheri (Mumbai West) when the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, made a stunning entry on the stage in a spaceship, amidst fireworks. The show was also displayed on two giant screens accompanied by the earsplattering scream which formed a part of his opening number "Scream".

Michael Jackson visited Mumbai on October 30, 1996 for a performance the next day. The visit came after a string of controversies, protests and legal hiccups. It turned out to be the pop star's only one to India, before scandals and ill-health stymied his superstardom

It was Michael Jackson all the way on Friday night. Even Bally Sagoo and Noble Savages tried valiantly to contain the capacity crowd till the arrival of Jackson, the crowd nearly 50,000 wouldn't stop chanting "we want Michael, we want Michael."

And when Wacko Jacko made his entry in a giant spaceship, dressed in a dazzling golden spacesuit, the crowd at the stadium went berserk. The Jackson show band wagon started with the song "Scream" which is part of his "History" album.
