Bodoland Peoples Front ahead in BTC polls, ruling UPPL trails

Five years after it ousted from power, Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) looks set to emerge as the single largest party in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), polls for which were held on Monday and counting of votes was taken up on Friday, officials said.
The BPF has won one seat and was leading in 22 of the total 40 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won one seat, according to latest results and trends available till 9.30pm.
The council runs administration in five districts of western Assam.
The ruling United Peoples’ Party Liberal (UPPL) was leading on 8 seats and the BJP, which is in power in the state, was ahead on seven seats, the trends and results showed.
The opposition Congress failed to make any impact among voters and wasn't leading in any seat.
