Blackout enforced in districts along border

A blackout was enforced across Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), several districts of Punjab and in border districts of Rajasthan and Gujarat on Thursday evening amid a fury of missile and drone attacks from Pakistan as tension between the two countries escalated.

An Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals being played at Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh was called off midway and the stadium was evacuated by authorities due to security reasons. Dharamshala falls in Kangra district bordering Punjab and J&K.
Authorities in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan also announced closure of schools across the state or in multiple districts while all educational institutions in Jammu division will remain shut on Friday. "In view of the prevailing situation all Schools, Colleges & educational institutions (private as well as Government) in the districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Poonch shall remain closed tomorrow on 9th May as well," Jammu divisional commissioner said on X.
