Former English umpire Dickie Bird, one of cricket’s most popular figures whose officiating illuminated the human touch that has been overshadowed by technology, died at home on Tuesday, the Yorkshire County Cricket Club announced. He was 92.
Dickie Bird officiated in 66 Tests and 69 ODIs.

The Yorkshireman’s first-class career as a top-order batter with his home County and then Leicestershire was brief and ended because of injuries. However, the iconic status Bird achieved as an international umpire and the way he endeared himself to fans for his idiosyncrasies rivalled the biggest stars of the period.
Having made his Yorkshire debut in 1956, his 93-match first-class career (3,314 runs, avg 20.71, HS 181*, 2x100, 14x50) was over in 1964, He was only 32.
