The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has questioned the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) over permitting the Bahadur Ke Road common effluent treatment plant (CETP) to discharge effluents into Buddha Nullah, violating clear environmental clearance (EC) conditions.

The controversy began with an appeal challenging PPCB's order, wherein environmental activist Jaskirat Singh argued that authorities were misinterpreting the tribunal's orders as a blanket stay and were allowing CETPs to discharge untreated or inadequately treated effluents into Buddha Nullah.
