40-yr-old held for extorting ₹33 lakh from close friend 'to settle' rape case

A 40-year-old man who runs a spa and massage centre, was arrested in Faridabad on Wednesday, for allegedly getting his girlfriend to implicate his close friend in a fake rape case to get him jailed, police said.

They added that the man then extorted ₹33 lakh from his family on the pretext of influencing the complainant to withdraw the case.

Police identified the victim as Dheeraj Gupta, 37, a real estate firm owner. He spent almost three-and-a-half months in jail after being arrested in a fake rape case registered against him at Women's police station (central) on July 12, 2023. He is from Vishwakarma Colony in Delhi's Prahladpur area.

The woman had alleged that Gupta had raped her after dragging her inside his Ford Endeavour car parked in the basement of Crown Interiorz Mall in Sector 35 in December 2022.
