MUMBAI: Various Opposition parties in Maharashtra on Thursday criticised BJP-led Mahayuti government's decision to make Hindi mandatory as a third language for students in primary classes in Marathi and English-medium schools, in a departure from the practice of studying two languages.
While Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray said his party will oppose the decision vehemently and ensure that it is not implemented, senior Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar termed the decision "an injustice to the Marathi language".
