Among two new international airports of the DMK government's major infrastructure projects, the Parandur airport continues to be mired in challenges while the process to finalize a location for the proposed Hosur airport is underway.
CHENNAI:
After protesting for more than 1,000 days in Parandur (70 km away from Chennai), residents and activists are demanding the state government to make public the hydrogeological report done by a panel headed by retired IAS officer Machendranathan and to consider their plea to scrap the project. Meanwhile, for the Hosur (85 km away from Bengaluru) project, the state has shortlisted two out of five sites for a study by the airport authority of India (AAI). The DMK government believes that the new airports are key to attaining their goal of becoming a one trillion USD economy by 2030 and to make the state the best destination for investments in Asia.
