BENGALURU: A wave of unrest over the Hemavathi River Link Canal Project has led to the registration of multiple first information reports (FIRs) by the police, following a large-scale protest near Gubbi town in Tumakuru district on Saturday. Several people, including farmers, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and religious figures took part in the protest.

The unrest stems from growing opposition to the state government's plan to divert water from the Hemavathi River to the Ramanagara region.

According to police, 11 FIRs have been filed at the Gubbi station against several people accused of offences such as assaulting officers, disrupting public order, damaging official vehicles, and obstructing the national highway.
