Body of Punjab Man Died in Telangana Tunnel Collapse Sent Home

The body of tunnel boring machine operator Gurpreet Singh, which was extricated from the debris of Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Telangana's Nagarkurnool district on Sunday evening, was dispatched to his residence in Cheema Kalan village of Tarn Taran district of Punjab on Monday, officials familiar with the matter said.

The rescue agencies managed to retrieve the body of Singh from under 10 feet of silt, officials aware of the matter said.

Eight people — engineers and labourers — got trapped on February 22 when a portion of the roof collapsed at the SLBC tunnel in Nagarkurnool district, approximately 120 km from Hyderabad. Rescue teams were forced to use fishing rafts, tyres, wooden and bamboo planks to navigate through the flooded tunnel.

According to officials heading the rescue operation, Singh's body was extricated after "very careful" digging and other efforts for more than 48 hours.
