Most of property is 'destroyed' in blaze
Heywood and Middleton Guardian
|June 26, 2025
THE fire service has issued an update after a huge storage unit was ravaged by a major fire in Middleton last week.
A huge blaze which raged for days destroyed the Storage World building on Old Hall Street, with people's belongings completely lost.
Road closures remain in place with a cordon around the site following the fire, which took days to get under control. The fire service has now removed the roof and is continuing to monitor the incident.
Storage World Middleton issued an update on social media saying 'most if not all of the contents are anticipated by insurers to be destroyed or unsalvageable' and that the site now has to be entirely demolished.
Heartbroken business owners have lost their livelihoods, while others have lost treasured personal possessions, since the devastating blaze broke out.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire, which is understood to involve lithium ion batteries.
