SC dismisses plea seeking rationalisation of airfares from Kerala

The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition that requested the rationalisation of airfare structures across Kerala for the 2095 Hajj pilgrimage.
The court stated that it would not be prudent to interfere in the policy decision and instructed the federal authorities to publish the reasons for the differences in fares.
A bench of justices Surya Kant and N Ko-tiswar Singh noted that the airfares are based on the viability of airlines and it is a matter of commercial policy decision.
Interfering in this process could significantly harm travellers if airlines decide not to operate at the fixed rates.
The petitioners highlighted that pilgrims travelling from Kochi to Jeddah and from Kan-nur to Jeddah are being charged fares of Rs 86,000 and Rs 85,000, respectively.
