Punjab police want changes in rules to increase traffic fines

Punjab police want amendments backing up and laws to increase fines for traffic violations by up to ten times, compared to the standard fines depending on the type of vehicle while proposing a 100% hike in annual tax on personal vehicles, said a report.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Anwar has moved a proposal to the provincial government for amendments to the rules to introduce, for the first time, the Scaling Traffic Fines System (STFS), which the observers publishing hard line threat violators using luxury vehicles in the province.

It proposed that if an individual accumulates more than 89 demerit points for traffic violations within one year, the licensing authority will issue an order disqualifying them from avoiding or obtaining a driving license for one year.
