People work more than 70 hours a week in India

According to a recent report, many people in Indian states work more than 70 hours a week, averaging almost 12 hours a day over a six-day work week.

The report, authored by Sharika Ravi, a Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council member, identifies Gujarat, Punjab, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Kerala as the states with the longest working hours.

Narayana Moorthy, the founder of Infosys, recently sparked a debate by stating that if India aspires to become a developed nation, people will need to work 70 hours a week or more.

The report analyses employment-related activities across different states, sectors, and types of enterprises, considering variations based on rural and urban locations and gender differences.
