Kerala parties prepare for Nilambur by-poll

Major political parties in Kerala have started consultations with allies on their candidates to be fielded in the Nilambur assembly constituency in Malappuram district.
Nilambur goes to the polls on June 19 along with Kadi and Visavadar (Gujarat), Ludhiana West (Punjab), and Kaliganj (West Bengal).
The by-election was necessitated by the resignation of PV Anwar, who also left the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Similarly, the legislator of Visavadar, Bhayani Bhupendrabhai Gandhubhai, resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party to join Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party.
The death of sitting legislators made way for by-elections in the other three constituencies - Kadi (Karshan Solanki, BJP), Ludhiana West (Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, AAP), and Kaliganj (Nasiruddin Ahmed, Trinamool Congress).
