Kerala mulls 5-day work week for government employees

After many aborted takeoffs, Kerala state government has reignited discussions on reducing the working days of government offices to five days per week, after declaring the two remaining days as holidays.

The move, which enjoys the blessings of both the ruling and opposition fronts, appears to be gaining momentum.
The Public Administration Department has scheduled a meeting with service organisation representatives on 11 September to collect their views.
Suggestions can also be submitted via email to gadcdn4@gmail.com. The latest move follows recommendations from different bodies, including the Pay Revision Commission and Administrative Reforms Commission (ARC).
Following the footsteps of central government offices, Kerala government wanted to implement a five-day work week for the past five years. Several other states have already implemented the system.
