Court cuts jail term of convict in theft case

The Dubai Court of Appeal reduced the sentence of an Asian national from two years in jail to one year and upheld the fine of Dhs130,000, as well as his deportation from the country after serving the sentence.
The defendant was convicted of stealing 18 air conditioning units from a villa in Al Muhaisnah area.
In detail, a GCC national filed a report stating that a villa he owned in Al Muhaisnah area was broken into and 18 air conditioning units were stolen.
He mentioned that he went to inspect the villa after a decision was issued to close it due to violation of rental terms and its use as shared accommodation.
Upon arrival, he added that he found signs of disorder and a broken outer door.
