American golfer Lewis announces retirement

Former World No. I Stacy Lewis announced her retirement from the LPGA Tour on Wednesday after 17 years and 13 wins on the circuit, including two majors.

Lewis, 40, was the tour's Player of the Year in 2012 and 2014 and reached No. I for four weeks in 2013 and another 21 weeks in 2014. She won the Chevron Championship in 2011 and the Women's British Open in 2013.

The two-time US Solheim Cup captain, who starred collegiately at Arkansas, announced her impending retirement at a pro-am event at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.
