What's in a name? Pupils' ideas may be used to name new roads

The initiative, organised by Barnwood-based housebuilder Newland Homes, invited schoolchildren to suggest themes for roads in its latest zero carbon project on Cheltenham Road East. The site, which recently secured planning permission, will feature 145 homes powered by renewable energy instead of fossil fuels.

The aim of the competition was to engage young people with their community and encourage them to think about leaving a positive legacy. Pupils were asked to draw inspiration from the local area's history, geography and culture to create street name themes.

Entries were praised for their imagination, but four stood out to the judges at Newland Homes. Marko Djakovic, a Year 2 pupil, focused on the theme of electrical innovation and the zero carbon revolution.
