Administrative Overload: IAS officers burdened with multiple charges

AS officer Ajitabh Sharma (Chairman, RIICO and Principal Secretary, Industries) is set to embark on a month-long foreign tour starting Monday. In his absence, the Department of Personnel (DoP) has reassigned his responsibilities as Chairman, RIICO, to Shivangi Swarnkar (2011 batch) and T Ravikanth (1998 batch) as Principal Secretary, Industries.

Meanwhile, another officer from Sharma’s 1996 batch, Rajesh Yadav, currently serving as Principal Secretary, LSG, is also away on a personal foreign tour. During his leave, Vaibhav Galriya, Principal Secretary, UDH, has been entrusted with Yadav’s department.

These interim arrangements, however, are temporary and expected to remain in place only until the respective officers return from their foreign assignments.

Currently, nearly two dozen IAS officers are managing additional departmental charges several of them for prolonged periods.
