CCI Clears Bharat Forge's ₹746-crore AAM India Deal Using Rare Provision

THE COMPETITION COMMISSION of India (CCI) has invoked a rarely used provision of the Competition Act to clear Bharat Forge's ₹746.46-crore acquisition of AAM India Manufacturing Corporation (AAMCPL).
In a recently published order, the CCI said it found the proposed acquisition "likely to cause appreciable adverse effect on competition (AAEC)" in India's commercial vehicle (CV) axle market, prompting it to issue a show-cause notice to both companies under Section 29(1) of the Act.
Section 29(1) is invoked when the CCI initiates a Phase II investigation — a detailed scrutiny of a proposed "combination" case.
