It’s world’s first Level 3 autonomous car you can take your hands off the steering wheel and eyes off the road
HONDA LEGEND: LOOK, NO HANDS
VIKRAM CHAUDHARY I TAKE PRIDE in my driving skills, having honed these over 25 years, driving across countries, terrains, and after taking dozens of lessons on tracks from world's best drivers.
So, when I sat on the driving seat of a self-driving car, I wondered if all that effort was worth it! I was driving Honda Legend armed with world's first certified Level 3 autonomous technology.
What is Level 3? The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has defined 'Levels of Driving Automation' that carmakers follow. These are: Level 0 (the driver drives);
▶Level 1 (the driver can take her feet off the pedals);
▶ Level 2 (the car can control steering, acceleration and braking);
▶Level 3 (the driver can disengage from driving, but at times);
▶ Level 4 (the car can do all the driving, but a driver is needed);
▶ Level 5 (driver isn't needed).
