Textile, leather exporters pin hopes on BTA
Financial Express Lucknow
|July 31, 2025
THE 25% US tariff on Indian merchandise imports has jolted the country's $37-billion textile and apparel export industry, dashing hopes of gaining ground in the world's largest apparel market and wresting share from key rivals like China, Bangladesh, and Vietnam.
US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that Indian goods will face a 25% tariff starting August 1—a sharp increase from the current 10% baseline, though slightly lower than the 26% rate he had proposed during his April 2 'Liberation Day' address.
