Under the visionary leadership of PM Narendra Modi, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami is driving a wave of social reforms in the state.

The state government is shaping Uttarakhand into a state that upholds equality, transparency, and opportunity for all.Uniform Civil Code: Harmonising personal law

On February 7, 2024, Uttarakhand became the first Indian state to implement a comprehensive Uniform Civil Code (UCC). This code consolidates personal laws related to marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption, and live-in relationships into a single legal framework.

Just four months after its implementation, by late May 2025, over 1,50,000 registrations were recorded for marriages, divorces, and live-in arrangements. This success can be attributed to a robust digital infrastructure that includes apps, online portals, and village-level centres. The high engagement rate is reflected in approximately 98% of villages submitting applications.

The UCC abolishes archaic practices, promoting gender equality and social justice. However, it exempts the Scheduled Tribes to preserve their customs. Overall, the law enhances legal clarity and protection for citizens across various demographics.
