New Delhi to flag long-standing WTO issues at ministerial meet in Paris

Fisheries, dispute settlement on top of Goyal's agenda

INDIA AND 24 other ministers of the World Trade Organization (WTO) will participate in an informal meeting in Paris on Tuesday to discuss key pending issues before the global trade body, as preparations begin for the next ministerial conference scheduled for 2026.

"At this crucial forum (WTO meeting), the minister will engage with global counterparts on key multilateral trade issues and articulate the perspectives and priorities of India," a commerce ministry statement said.

The issues at the informal WTO meeting are expected to focus on areas such as fisheries subsidies, dispute settlement and investment facilitation. India has signed the first phase of the fisheries subsidies agreement, which aims to limit deep-sea fishing, but has yet to ratify it.
