WITH KHARIF CROPS across several states being impacted by excessive rainfall during the last one month, the agriculture ministry has directed states to complete mid-season adversity and crop loss assessment under the highly subsidised Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).

The move aims to ensure that farmers get timely compensation for crop losses.

An official with the agriculture ministry told FE that the states, with which the Centre share the subsidy burden of crop insurance scheme, have been urged to monitor the progress of localised loss intimation and ensure that the advance share of premium subsidy is released to insurance companies for settling farmers’ claim on time.
