MYSTERY surrounds how an 18th century mourning ring commemorating the wife of a Devon MP and landowner made its way 400 miles to a field in Tyne and Wear.
The mourning ring commemorates Isabela Rolle, the wife of a Devon MP who died in 1734
(Hansons Auctioneers)
The ring was discovered by a metal detectorist and sold at an auction in Derbyshire for £750.
It is marked with the name Isabella Rolle, who died in 1734. The ring would have been worn by a family member as an act of remembrance.
