Ukraine ‘sank Russian flagship after receiving intelligence from US

THE US provided intelligence that helped Ukraine sink the Moskva, Russia's flagship Black Sea cruiser, it was reported today.
The Ukrainians had asked about a ship “sailing to the south of Odesa" and were provided with confirmation it was the Moskva and “a range of intelligence" to help determine its exact location, according to a US official, who was speaking on condition of anonymity.
Ukraine then struck it with two anti-warship missiles, although the US did not know the ship would be targeted, added the official. The 510-crew missile cruiser hadled Russia's naval assault on Ukraine, and its sinking last month was a major symbolic and military blow. At the time, the Russian defence ministry said ammunition on board exploded in an unexplained fire and the ship tipped over while being towed to port.
