Prosecutor's journey from California to Veep-and beyond?
Evening Standard
|July 22, 2024
KAMALA HARRIS has already been the US president for 85 minutes — in 2021 she briefly held power while the then 78-year-old Joe Biden was put under anaesthesia for a colonoscopy.
Her journey to the White House began in Oakland, California, where she was born in 1964 to parents who met while taking part in the civil rights campaign.
She has often talked about her upbringing in the West Coast city, which was a crucible for the campaign for racial equality — it was home to the radical Black Panther Party — and recalled growing up around adults “marching and shouting about this thing called justice”.
