STUART BROAD has tipped Ollie Pope to be England's next Test skipper, calling him a "great leader" and saying that "there's no doubt you can see him as a future England captain".

Speaking from Hamilton, where England are putting the finishing touches on their preparation for a two-match Test series in New Zealand, Broad was responding to a question about his own role as vice-captain that he held over the summer of 2022, but neatly pivoted to heap praise on England's 25-year-old No3 batter.

"I think Popey is a great leader in the group," said Broad. "He's grown so much in the last year. The way he operates, the confidence and responsibility he's been given. He speaks really well in the group, he's got a great cricket mind.
