Poverty funding figures are a 'stark reminder' of crisis

More than 16,500 people living in Nithsdale have directly benefitted from a fund set up to tackle poverty and inequalities.

And Dumfries Provost Tracey Little insisted that the stats are a "stark reminder" of how many families and individuals are still struggling on a daily basis through the prolonged cost of living crisis.

Tackling poverty has become a priority for the council in recent years, and councillors have discussed how grant funding for mitigating hardships residents are facing was being spent in the Nithsdale area.

A report was tabled at Nithsdale area committee detailing how nearly £80,000 was split between 10 community projects supporting residents that have been struggling to put food on the table.
