SOLAR panels were installed on the roofs of homes, businesses and other UK buildings at a rate equivalent to every two minutes in 2025, official figures show.

Solar panels installed on UK roofs every two minutes last year - data

A total of 189,826 solar installations were made on UK roofs last year, according to new data.

A total of 269,000 solar installations were completed last year, according to Government data published on Thursday, as the rollout of renewable technologies across the country continues.

This was a 37% increase on the year before and the highest total recorded in a calendar year, the Energy Department (Desnz) said.

Around 255,000 - or 95% - were rooftop installations.

The figures also show that nine of the 10 strongest months on record for solar deployment occurred in the last year, with 23,000 in April 2026 alone.

More than one in two of last month's installations were rooftop solar panels on homes as more households choose to generate their own power, ministers said, adding that rooftop solar can save families up to £480 a month.
