Remembrance wreath blow as veteran stood down from key role at service

A ROYAL Air Force veteran has voiced his frustration after his local branch of the Royal British Legion barred him from laying a wreath, with his local community calling for an investigation.

Thom Ward, who served ten years in the RAK said he was contacted by the branch committee of Melbourne Royal British Legion ahead of this year’s Remembrance Day service, who had asked him to represent them by laying the Royal Air Force wreath.

“The night before the service, I then got a message saying they were standing me down because it would cause a lot of ill feeling if I were to lay the wreath,’ Thom said.
