Mystery why 'Spoons' wants rid of popular, lively watering hole

To the very rear of the pub was what seemed to be a little library with lots of old books stacked neatly on bookshelves, accompanied by old pictures of Derby scattered around the walls.

After reading the farewell column by Derby's former Beerhunter, Colston Crawford, a few weeks ago, I noticed he mentioned Theakston’s Old Peculier as one of his favourite beers, so I figured it would be rude not to pay homage to the man himself by ordering a pint.

And I was in luck, it was £1.89 for any ale - an offer I believe is available on any given Monday or Wednesday. So it was a pint of OP for under £2. If that isn’t proof of the chokehold JD Wetherspoon has on the country’s drinkers, I don’t know what is.
