Hopes of third time lucky for road resurfacing

MAJOR ROUTE SET TO BE CLOSED AND REPAIRED AGAIN AFTER PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS AT A NEW SURFACE FAILED TO WORK
RESIDENTS in a Derby suburb are hoping it is third time lucky as they prepare for a major road to be closed and resurfaced again.
It will be the third time in three years that Chapel Street in Spondon has been surface dressed - the most recent in April.
The work was always previously undertaken in the day time, something the city council has acknowledged has become a “sensitive issue” among residents.
This time the work will be carried out overnight, for one night only, between the week of Monday, December 15 and Thursday, December 18, closing the road from 8pm to 5am to minimise impact on residents, businesses and public transport.
It is understood that on one occasion the tar used in dressing the road did not stick properly and another time, large sections were not completed because parked cars were in the way.
The most recent dressing in April “did not meet the required standards” according to Derby City Council, and that is why the contractor is returning less than nine months later to carry out the work again between Locko Road and Moor Street.
Spondon councillors have been appealing to the city council to solve the road surface problems in Chapel Street, which many residents have complained about.
