Heritage of Dales remains vital as seasons change
Derby Telegraph
|September 19, 2025
THIS summer has been full of opportunities to meet with residents, farmers, businesses, and community groups across Derbyshire Dales. Each conversation has reminded me of the strength of our local traditions and the determination we share to shape a better future.
Following Parliament's return, I want to reflect on some of the highlights and set out how I am taking your priorities forward.
My visit to Cromford Mills was a powerful reminder of the importance of our heritage. It was here that Richard Arkwright's cotton spinning frame changed the course of history, laying the foundations of the Industrial Revolution. Today, Cromford remains the beating heart of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, and its story is as relevant as ever. Preserving the site while keeping it vibrant for future generations requires both investment and vision.
I will continue working with local leaders to secure the support needed so that Cromford Mills remains not just a monument to the past but a living part of our cultural fabric.
