GUN MOOR TO RECEIVE CHUNK OF £30M GOVT HABITAT FUND TO HELP RESTORE MEADOWS, WETLANDS AND WOODLANDS

Green shoots of recovery set to hit parts of Peaks

Stockport-based Moorland Restoration Project is working to restore peatlands, wetlands and woodlands across the Peak District.

(STOCKPORT MOORLAND RESTORATION PROJECT)

WILDFLOWER meadows, wetlands and native woodlands will be restored or created across England, including parts of Derbyshire and the Peak District, with the support of a new habitat fund, the Government has announced.

Ministers will invest £30 million over three years into wildlife-rich habitats to support species such as hedgehogs, hazel dormice, bees, butterflies and wading birds.

The money will go to projects spanning thousands of hectares across England’s designated national parks, national landscapes and the broads, nature minister Mary Creagh said.

It comes as part of efforts to meet the country’s international commitment to protect 30% of land and sea for nature by 2030, and its legally-binding target to restore more than 500,000 hectares of wildlife-rich habitat by 2042.
