'The kids must be with their mother'

These are the words of grieving husband Ganief Jacobs, following the family tragedy that saw his wife Zainab and her sister Gouwah Smith-Newman allegedly gunned down by their broer. Last Thursday's double murder in front of Portlands Primary School sent shockwaves through Cape Town.

Brother Ederees Smith has appeared in court on a charge of murder after a domestic dispute, allegedly over the custody of children who have been placed in the care of Zainab and Ganief by the courts.

The Weekend Argus learnt that both Ganief, along with the boys' mother Wadee-ah Smith, their grandfather Mogamat Nazeem Smith, social workers, psychologists, community workers, religious leaders and elders in the family met earlier in the week to hand over the children.
