A CLARKE Estate family say they “lost alles” when a fire, allegedly sparked by a “gerookte” neighbour, spread through their community, destroying 12 structures and displacing 39 people.

Elsies River Ouma Jamie-Lee Cupido told the Daily Voice that she lives with her mother, her sister and three minor children agter die plek where the fire broke out on Wednesday around 4pm.

She explained: “I was in the house with my three grandchildren as I called for help.

“No one came to help us, they only went to where the fire started. I was struggling with the three grandchildren who were with me inside our house.

“We lost literally everything because the wendy houses were close to each other and there were wood and paint buckets lying next to our wendy. The wind was also blowing heavily so we couldn’t save anything.”
