More than 400 new cops join festive force

MORE than 400 newly-trained cops will boost SAPS' festive operations regoor the provinsie - a move that has been given the thumbs up by the Wes-Kaapse government.

The additions are expected to significantly strengthen visible policing and crime-fighting capacity during one of the busiest tye of the year.

Western Cape MEC of Police Oversight and Community Safety Anroux Marais said the new cops reflect a positive response to the province's sustained calls for increased policing resources.

This as the province continues to shoulder a burden of serious and violent crime.
