Textor stunned by Palace fan banner

- BY SARAH CLAPSON

JOHN TEXTOR has blasted the “moment of temporary insanity” from some Crystal Palace fans that saw Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis depicted in a graphic banner.

Tensions had simmered between the two teams over the summer amid the saga over which UEFA competition both would compete in this season.

In the end, Palace were demoted to the Conference League after falling foul of multi-club ownership rules and the Reds were promoted to the Europa League at their rivals’ expense.

During the game between the two sides at Selhurst Park on August 24, a banner was held up in the Holmesdale End depicting Marinakis holding a gun to the head of Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White.

Former Palace shareholder Textor, who has a strong relationship with the Greek businessman, was left “disgusted” by the display but has insisted it was not representative of the majority of Eagles supporters.
