BEN STOKES called on Harry Brook to be made England captain after he said a losing farewell to international cricket.

Stokes’ final day in an England shirt ended with a 160-run defeat to New Zealand, who clinched a 2-1 series win at Trent Bridge.

And after insisting there would be no way back for him, Stokes backed his controversial vice-captain (inset) to be his successor.

“There’s a reason why he was asked to be vice-captain

of this team," declared Stokes. "You don't ask someone to be vice-captain if you don't think that they've got the skills and the ability to be able to captain the team when they need to.
