Football icon kicked off the congratulations for Sir Kevin
NEW knight Sir Kevin Sinfield revealed the first person to congratulate him on his recent honour was football legend Alan Shearer.
And Sinfield, assistant coach with Steve Borthwick’s England, repaid the compliment by wearing a Shearer Euro 96 shirt to a team social last week.
Sinfield, 45, was knighted in the King’s Birthday Honours list a fortnight ago for his marathon exploits raising money for MND charities.
He has brought in over £11m to help fund research into the disease after his rugby league team-mate the late Rob Burrow was diagnosed in 2019.
Shearer (right) was a big supporter of Burrow and he was the first person to get in touch with Sinfield when the official announcement was made.
Sinfield (inset) explained: “The first message was from Alan Shearer which is pretty special.
