Practical and family focused, Volvo's EX90 is a solid and standout SUV showing what electric cars can do. But even minor functions can prove a bit fiddly.

Volvo is a brand with a strong focus on electrification. While legislation may be softening, the Swedish firm still puts a lot of emphasis on battery-powered models while continuing to offer hybrid options as well. It’s why we've now got the EX90. Effectively an electric version of the popular XC90, the EX90 has seven-seater practicality to go alongside Volvo's latest tech.

WHAT'S NEW?

It is designed to be a practical, family-focused SUV which just happens to be electric. In typical Volvo fashion, that means a solid but premium-feeling interior and a host of safety assistance systems.

Underneath, the EX90 uses a similar platform to the XC90, and it’s one you'll find underneath cars like the Polestar 3.

WHAT'S UNDER THE BONNET?

For now buyers have just standard dual-motor and upgraded Performance models, the former of which we're driving. With 402bhp and 770Nm of torque it's powerful enough to get this heavyweight up to speed in good time. Volvo claims a 0-60mph time of just 5.2 seconds.
