My personal favourite is the chestnut. I like to rip them open with my teeth and eat them raw like a squirrel - but I know many people like a spot of green, so let's talk about pistachios.

They come from a tree native to Central Asia. It's known from archeological discoveries that they were widely cultivated and eaten as many as 9,000 years ago.
