Giants debut such an honour for Connor

IF NOT for sheer persistence, Connor Carr could be grafting at a chemical plant rather than celebrating his debut with hometown Huddersfield.

At the age of 22, he finally made his Super League bow with injury-ravaged Giants against Catalans on Sunday.

Although they were on the end of a 38-18 loss and are still yet to win this year, it marked a memorable day for him, given his unusual career path.

Centre Carr could so easily have been completely lost to the professional ranks.

He earned a two-year full-time deal last season, but only after doing the hard yards in League 1 - and learning a trade at the same time - after being given a golden chance by Huddersfield director of rugby Andy Kelly.

Carr said: “It’s my seventh year here now - I've been here since I was 14.
