JONJO: DUBAI MOVE NOT ABOUT MONEY

- BY SIMON CASS

JONJO SHELVEY says not wanting to bring up his kids in England was the reason behind his shock switch to UAE second-tier side Arabian Falcons.

The former Newcastle and Liverpool midfielder insists his move to Dubai has nothing to do with cash, because his hotel worker brother is earning more money than he does.

A clip of the former England international went viral earlier this month after he missed a penalty for his new club in front of a sparse crowd on a pitch that wouldn't have looked out of place in the Northern League.

Shelvey left Newcastle in January 2023 to join Nottingham Forest, but the move didn't work out and he left the club that summer.

After a spell in Turkey he moved to Burnley on a short-term deal in January, but was released after they secured promotion to the Premier League, paving the way for his new adventure in Dubai at a club managed by his childhood friend Harry Agombar.
