Bromley beats the Maldives as Emma goes back to roots

- BY YASMIN SYED

EMMA RADUCANU is ready to become a “better” version of herself after enjoying some downtime in the UK.

From Jannik Sinner to Aryna Sabalenka, tennis players flock to the Maldives during the off-season — but not Raducanu, who preferred the home comforts of Bromley.

The British No.1 has been staying in her childhood bedroom, catching the local train, and even setting herself homework before jetting to Barcelona for a preseason training block with coach Francisco Roig (right).

Raducanu, who got an A* and an A in her A-Levels, has decided to learn Spanish and French, a task to “occupy her brain with’.

The former US Open champion said: “Having subjects that I’m studying, it does remind me of when I was younger, and I was juggling two things. I'm putting deadlines on myself to achieve certain things, and have got homework to do. It's all very nostalgic, but in a good way.”
